What are the important factors to consider before starting woodturning?

Before you start with woodturning it is essential to know that it does require a lot of effort and time since it is being crafted by hands and it requires a lot of patience and effort. If you rush and speed up the work, it will result in a lack of creativity and your work will be messy. As competition is increasing day by day for every business, uniqueness is what gains a competitive advantage over competitors and if unique designs are created then it will help to create attractive designs that will attract the buyers and will result in more profits.
In crafting the price depends upon the designing and uniqueness which creates its worth and can be sold. If the design is not unique and the finished work is not good then it will not be sold at a higher price. Also, it requires slow work to make a design and it requires a lot of patience. If you speed up the process it will not be worth it. Also, experience and knowledge are required in this work. If a person has enough knowledge and experience they can easily carry out the work while if they lack out knowledge and experience, they will not be able to create better design and the work will not be sold at a higher price. To conclude I would like to suggest that it requires a lot of time, effort and hard and experience I order to create better wooden products.

Things to consider before starting with the woodturning

1. Wear eye protection
As our eyes are the most a delicate and important part of our body, it is recommended to wear eye goggles in order to protect our eyes from getting damaged.

2. Do not get too close with the machines
As in woodturning, the use of machines is used massively which is essential for cutting the woods. However, it is recommended that a worker should not stand too close with the machines while using it as accidents can happen which can risk the life of the worker.

3. Experience and knowledge
If a person has a piece of adequate knowledge and experience then they can work well in producing wooden products and if they do not have any experience and knowledge then it is advised to train the workers so that they can gain experience and knowledge.

What is pottery?

The term pottery means to make or produce the products which are made out of clay. Pottery is one of the oldest methods which is still widely being used in today’s era.

Pottery is one of the oldest inventions which had been introduced in 25,000-29,000 BC. Different types of products are made with the help of pottery. As in the previous era, there were no proper armors and weapons available and in order to fight and hunt it was pottery to be most used for creating armors and weapons out of clay.

What is the purpose of pottery?

The purpose of the pottery is pretty simple. It has helped in creating useful clay items such as clay bowls, clay utensils, clay cutlery, etc. With the use of pottery, many types of equipment were made for hunting the animals and for self-protection. If pottery had not been used then it would have been difficult to survive especially in the old era.

  1. First clay powder is poured in a bowl and mixed with the water.
  2. It makes a clay which is thick and dry.
  3. The clay is placed on a spinning wheel.
  4. It is later to be shaped and cut with the hands while spinning.
  5. The extra parts which are not required are removed in order to create a shape of an object.
  6. Once the perfect shape has been created, clay is stored for a few days in order to harden it up.

  • It is not time-consuming.

What are the disadvantages of pottery?

  • Clay is easily broken if dropped.
  • Pottery makes our hand messy and tidy as all the clay is stuck in our hands and nails.
  • Clay can easily be damaged from water.
  • Clay is more expensive to buy then cutting the tree.

What is the difference between woodturning and pottery?

Both are different methods for producing different items that have different purposes. We will talk in detail about both.

1. Woodturning
It is a method for producing items that are made from wood. It does not require much cost as the wood is obtained from the trees which are cut. In woodturning, it requires time, experience and knowledge in order to craft the wood. If the crafting will be well and detailed then the final product will also be good in quality. It requires the use of chisel for crafting and cutting of the wood. Without the use of the equipment, it would be difficult to craft the wood and no products will be produced. For gaining profits unique designs are essential which will not make it look common. One of the most popular work items is wood Jewellery which is sold massively.

2. Pottery
It is a method for producing the items which are made from the clay. It is one of the oldest methods of the invention which was widely used as a protection for armors and weapons for hunting. Pottery does not require any tree to be cut as the items are produced with the use of clay only. However, the cost of purchasing the clay would be more expensive as compared to the woodturning because the clay needs to be bought which makes it expensive. In pottery, clay is used by spinning the wheel and forming a shape of an object which needs to be created. Pottery does not require a longer time duration and it is not time-consuming as compared to the wood as clay needs to dry in order to harden it up which makes it flexibility durable. In pottery, it does not require much of an experience which is the benefit for the workers as they will not have to train themselves and their time will be saved.

Conclusion
I would like to conclude that both the woodturning and pottery are good both have importance.
